Nancy Pelosi wrote a editorial in the US Today Aug. 10 2009

“The dialogue between elected representatives and constituents is at the heart of our democracy and plays an integral role in assuring that the legislation we write reflects the genuine needs and concerns of the people we represent.”

She knows damn well we are NOT a democracy. If she doesn’t, she needs to get out of our government. As a matter of fact, they ALL should get out.  Our forefathers fears are and have come true.

The military training manual in 1928 describe the difference between a Republic and a Democracy.

* A Government of the masses

* Authority derived through mass meeting or any other form of “Direct” expression

* Results in mobocracy

* Attitude toward property communistic negating property rights.

* Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate, whether is be based upon deliberation or governed by passion, prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard of consequences.

* Results in demogogism license agitation, discontent, anarchy.

* Authority is deprived through the election by the people of the public officials best fitted to represent them.

* Attitude toward law is the administration of justice in accord with fixed principles and established evidence, with strict regard to consequences.

* A greater number of citizens and extent of territory may be brought within its compass

* Avoids the dangerous extreme of either tyranny or mobocracy.

* Results in statesmanship, liberty, reason, justice, contentment, and progress.

* Is the “standard form” of government throughout the world.

Article IV Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution: “Guarantees to every state in this union a Republican form of government.”

Our founding fathers didn’t want a Democracy for of government because well, look at where we are today. We are getting closer and closer to tyranny.

Madison warned us how dangerous have a Democracy could be. “Democracies have been spectacles of turbulence and contention, have been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property, and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.”

“We may define a Republic to be a government which deprives all its power directly or indirectly from the great body of the people, and is administered by persons holding their offices during the pleasure for a LIMITED period, or during good behavior. It is essential to such a government that it be derived from the great body of society, not from an inconsiderable or a favored class of it, otherwise a handful of tyrannical nobles, exercising their oppressions by a delegation of powers, might aspire to rank of  Republicans  and claim for their government the honorable title of Republic.” (James Madison 1787)
